IR Unveils New IRU1120 LDO Regulator
International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) introduced the IRU1120, an adjustable low dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator for up to 2A output current. The new regulator is stable with low-cost, space-saving, ceramic capacitors enabling up to 20 percent lower system cost and up to 50 percent smaller system footprint for ADSL and cable modems, graphic cards, desktop computers, hard disk drives, and onboard dc/dc converters.
The IRU1120 features output-capacitance values as low as 4.7mF, reducing the number of output capacitors and system cost. System cost can be further reduced with less expensive, safe and widely available ceramic capacitors in place of tantalum capacitors while simultaneously reducing system size and height.
The new device is housed in the new, lower cost, lower profile, five-pin, UltraThin-Pak, surface-mount package. The adjustable output voltage can be set from 1.25V to 5.5V. The IRU1120 provides internal current limit and thermal shutdown circuits to protect the device if a short circuit occurs.
The new IRU1120CP LDO regulator is available immediately. Pricing is $0.77 each in 10,000-unit quantities.
