IR Releases iPOWIR™ Building Block For POL Buck Converters

January 02, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier (IR)® introduced the iP1206, described as a fully optimized solution for synchronous buck applications including telecom and networking equipment.

The iP1206 is the latest addition to the iPOWIR™ integrated power conversion stage product line, designed for two-phase single output applications up to 30A or dual independent outputs up to 15A. Both options utilize synchronized 180 degree out-of-phase operation, reducing input current ripple and input voltage ripple. The device is comprised of an optimized power stage and a full function PWM Control IC to achieve high power density.

"As with all iPOWIR products, the iP1206 is simple to design and easy to replicate across a wide range of voltage and current rails because all of the critical components are integrated and only a few external passive components are required for a complete POL solution," said Tim McDonald, Vice President of IR’s iPOWIR product line.

Features include a switching frequency up to 600kHz per channel, loss-less current limit, over-voltage and over-temperature protection, pre-bias start up, external synchronization, output voltage tracking and sequencing.

Available design tools include a web-enabled iP1206 Spice circuit simulation and the IRDCiP1206-B, a 15A per channel, dual output, synchronous buck converter reference design.

Pricing for the iP1206PBF devices begins at US$6.89 each in 10,000-unit quantities. Production orders are available immediately.
