IR Presents New IRUK3055CQ01 Power Chip Set

October 08, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) introduced its IRUK3055CQ01 complete power management chip set for simplifying the design of low-voltage, high-current, multi-phase synchronous, dc/dc converters complying with Intel® VRM 9.0 design guidelines.

The IRUK3055CQ01 chip set consists of one IRU3055CQ integrated, five-bit programmable, three-phase, pulse-width modulated, controller IC with on-board drivers; three IRF3704S control HEXFET®, power MOSFETs; and three IRF3711S synchronous HEXFET MOSFETs. The devices are individually optimized to work together to maximize system-level efficiency in a complete, three-phase, dc/dc synchronous-buck, converter solution, delivering up to 60A to power advanced microprocessors.

The IRU3055CQ PWM controller IC offers a programmable output voltage from 1.075V to 1.85V in 25mV steps, with up to one-percent output-voltage accuracy over the entire operating temperature range. The controller IC also offers under-voltage lockout, over-voltage protection, externally programmable soft-start, as well as a power-good function that detects outputs beyond ±10 percent of the programmed voltage.

Pricing for the IRUK3055CQ01 chip set is $4.20 each in 10,000-unit quantities. The IRDC3055 reference design kit is $250 each, and can be purchased online.
