IR Intros IRU1502-33 PMOS LDO Regulator

August 10, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) introduced the IRU1502-33 fixed-PMOS, low dropout (LDO), linear regulator in a six-pin MLPM package with a less than 0.6V dropout at a full-load current of 1A. The regulators are suitable for applications that require ultra-low dropout without high quiescent current compared to bipolar pass-element transistors. Other applications include hard disk drives, CD-ROMs and DVD drivers as well as noise sensitive circuitry in RF, audio and DSP, FPGA, and microprocessors.

The six-pin MLPM package (3mm x 3mm x 1mm) has an efficient thermal coefficient of 42°C/W, compared to the SOT-223 package with a thermal coefficient of 53°C/W. In addition, the MLPM package is 50% smaller than the SOT-223, making the IRU1502-33 beneficial in portable and battery-operated applications. The IRU1502-33 features ultra-low noise, fast startup and a line-and-load (transient) response specification of 1A/µs. An initial voltage reference with ±2% tolerance over load/line and a temperature range of 0°C to 120°C is included, with an ultra-low ground current of 650µA over the full load range. The new LDO also includes built-in output protection with both current-limit and thermal shutdown.

The new IRU1502-33CH is available immediately. Pricing is $0.37 each in 10,000-unit quantities.
