HiTek Debuts B and C Series Power Supplies

February 24, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

HiTek Power (Santee, CA) introduced two new families of compact, solid-state, high-voltage power supplies. The new power supplies (the B Series and C Series) incorporate a dynode divider for use with side- or front-window photomultipliers and can be mounted directly to photomultiplier tubes. The new compact power supplies are ideal for use in electrostatic lenses and beam position controls, spectroscopes, image intensifiers, microchannel plates, and other precision equipment.

The HiTek B Series provides an output voltage of 0Vdc to –1,250Vdc, from an input of 0Vdc to 9Vdc, with the output voltage varying directly with the amount of input voltage applied. The C Series power supplies provide an output voltage of –500Vdc to –1,250Vdc, from an input voltage of 12Vdc to 15Vdc. The output voltage is controlled by a programming resistance in the range of 0k ohms to 5k ohms or by a programming voltage ranging from 0V to 4.5V.

Both series feature integral voltage divider networks of approximately 5 megohms; no bypass capacitors; an integral socket that fits all 28mm-diameter, nine-stage photomultipliers with small-shell 11-pin bases; and a low dc leakage socket. Each series is available with an optional built-in signal pre-amplifier. The HiTek B and C Series power supplies are manufactured in the US and are fully encapsulated in UL-approved material to prevent arcing and humidity access to the high voltage.

In production quantities, the B Series and C Series power supplies are priced starting at $95 and $158, respectively, and come with a one-year warranty. Availability is stock to 14 weeks.
