High-Power / Surface-Mount N-Channel JFET

September 29, 2017 by Paul Shepard

Solid State Devices, Inc. (SSDI) has released the SFU290 and SFU291 N-Channel JFETS to replace Vishay Siliconix’s U290 / U291 series. The SFU290 and SFU291 deliver very fast switching speed with a maximum turn-on time of 15nsec. These 30V devices also provide low on-state resistance at 3Ω. These features will benefit applications such as low on-resistance analog / digital switches, choppers, sample-and-hold, normally “on” switches, and current limiters.

SSDI specializes in providing optimal die / package combinations to best meet its customers’ requirements. So, in addition to manufacturing the 0.35W drop-in replacement in a TO-52 package, SSDI’s engineers developed a new 4W surface mount option in the SMD.22 package for applications requiring high power dissipation.

The SMD.22 also offers a much lower maximum thermal resistance of 30°C/W as opposed to 357°C/W for the TO-52 package.

When programs encounter end-of-life or obsolescence issues, SSDI can provide a variety of hermetic product options, which may include high density packaging, improved performance, and higher reliability.

Whether the situation calls for a drop-in replacement or a new solution, SSDI’s strong die foundry relationships and in-house engineering / manufacturing capabilities allow it to effectively accommodate the specific needs of individual applications.
