FDK’s Senpai Low Input Voltage POL Converters Deliver Full-Rated Output with No Thermal Derating

April 17, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

FDK Corp. announced the latest products in its Senpai Series of non-isolated point of load (POL) converters with the addition of the FPLR05SR75 series of dc-dc converters. Operating from a 2.4 to 5.5Vdc input bus, these converters deliver up to 20A of output current with best-in-class thermal performance: No derating is needed up to 85°C under natural convection.

The Senpai Series dc-dc converters are designed for Intermediate Bus Architecture (IBA) and Distributed Power Architecture (DPA) applications that require high efficiency, tight regulation, and high reliability in elevated temperature environments with low airflow.

The FPLR05SR75 series converters are offered in 10, 16, and 20A output current models, in a 1.30 x 0.53 x 0.327 " (33.0x13.4x8.3mm) SMD package with industry-standard footprint and pin-out. They provide tightly-regulated programmable output voltages in the range of 0.75 – 3.63Vdc. All models feature remote ON/OFF, over-current and over-temperature protection, remote sense, and output voltage adjust, and are compatible with standard trim equations.

"The FPLR05SR75 series converters are a welcome addition to FDK’s Senpai Series," said Dr. Apurba Roy, Executive Advisor, FDK. "Delivering up to 20A with no derating in this small size, FDK is setting new standards for point of load power availability in high temperature and high density applications."

All Senpai Series products are RoHS compliant. They are manufactured using FDK’s state-of-the-art in-house manufacturing processes and systems. In quantities of 1,000 pieces, the 10, 16, and 20A models are priced at $10.00, $12.00, and $15.00, respectively.
