Falcon Electric Intros ED Series UVS Plus Converters

Falcon Electric Inc. (Irwindale, CA) introduced its ED Series™ UVS Plus® Rackmount Frequency Converters, which are a family of single-phase frequency converters, voltage regulators, and line conditioners that provide flexible and reliable ac power ranging from 3 kVA to 5 kVA. Utilizing double-conversion design, the ED Series weighs less than 100 lbs and 106 lbs, respectively.

Accepting 50 Hz, 60 Hz, and 400 Hz input and yielding a fixed 50 Hz or 60 Hz output, the 4U rack-mount ED Series converters provide precise voltage regulation and line conditioning as well as an internal battery backup system providing true regenerative online uninterruptible power system (UPS) functionality. The converters can easily accept wide input variations, and remain at their designed voltage and frequency allowing connected equipment to continuously operate during extended brownouts to 88 Vac. Featuring ruggedized options and operating temperatures ranging from 0 C to 40 C, the ED Series is suitable for harsh environments and critical applications such as military and aerospace electronics, process control, test and measurement, robotics, and communications.

The ED Series is a solid-state generator that prevents power disturbances. The ED Series regenerates clean, pure sinewave, computer-grade power with tightly regulated three percent voltage and frequency independent of generator voltage and frequency drift. The converters are designed to start up loads that exhibit high inrush when started from the utility. The ED Series units are compact and lightweight, fitting into 19 in rack or portable racking systems. Complete with integrated battery modules, the 3 kVA and 4 kVA models weigh 94 lbs and 95 lbs, and the 5 kVA unit weighs 105 lbs.

Available now, the ED Series meets the UL 1778 standard and FCC Class A requirements. Pricing starts at $8,450, and all models include a one-year warranty.
