Emerson Adds Astec APC18 to POL DC Converter Family

New Products Sep 20, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Emerson Network Power (Carlsbad, CA), a business of Emerson, added a new 75 W model to its Astec APC surface-mount product line of point-of-load (POL) dc-dc converters. With an input-voltage range of 10 Vdc to 14 Vdc, the new APC18 models provide up to 18 A of regulated power with efficiency as high as 92%.

Using the same compact, open-frame package as the 25 W and 40 W APC Series models, the devices feature an industry-standard, surface-mount footprint of 1.3 in x 0.53 in (33.02 mm x 13.46 mm). Only 0.35 in high, the devices are suitable for use in environments with restrictive space requirements, and can often serve as drop-in replacements for existing APC Series applications that have increased power requirements.

The single-output APC18 devices simplify purchasing decisions with adjustable external resistor programming that enables a single part number to provide a selected output voltage from 0.75 Vdc to 5.5 Vdc with regulation to within 3%. With the wide input-voltage ranges, the devices are well-suited for a variety of POL applications. For added flexibility, each unit has its own enable pin to allow for sequential activation.

The wide operating temperature range of –40 °C to +85 °C makes the APC Series suitable for use in extreme environments as well as for applications such as data and telecommunications. The devices are also well suited for instrumentation, internetworking devices and test equipment.

Priced from $11.50 in OEM quantities, samples are available now.
