Eltest Intros EL-ADPT1-VRM Test Manifold Adapter Card

May 16, 1999 by Jeff Shepard

Eltest (Mansfield, MA) announced the EL-ADPTI-VRM, a test manifold adapter card used in testing voltage regulator modules (VRMs). The EL-ADPT1-VRM adapter card is used with Eltest's standard power supply test systems to characterize and test voltage regulator modules.Eltest's standard Powerwin software test library has added dedicated test screens for VRM testing and characterization for use in combination with the EL-ADPT1-VRM test card. The VRM output is depended upon a combination of two input supplies (+5V and +12V) and up to a 5-digit VID: Voltage Identification Code).Powerwin's "Set Auxiliary State" screen allows a user to set conditions for the two input supplies, as well as define up to a 5-digit word for the VID. Users can run a sequence of tests at a particular VID code after executing the "Set Auxiliary State" test. "Voltage Accuracy with VID" is another dedicated VRM test that allows users to run an accessory test at a particular VID code. A second EL-467 Power Supply Measurement card, used in a typical test set-up, provides the extra digital I/O required for the VID code, and controls a secondary programmable input DC power source. The "Ancillary Three State" and "Ancillary Four State" allows a particular voltage threshold to be monitored as a function of a 4-or-5-digit VID code which has been set. This is helpful in testing a VRM's "Power Good" signal's voltage level, according to Eltest. The "Short Circuit Ancillary" test screen allows VRM users to short both a known output and an ancillary voltage, and test for the recovery time. A "Logic Ancillary 1 Shutdown" allows both a designated output and ancillary output (such as a logic shutdown pin) to have their voltage monitored when the Device-Under-Test (DUT) Inhibit pin is exercised. The price for the EL-ADPT-VRM is $250 for one to four units.
