Elite MicroPower Targets Sub-$30 Handsets with Audio Amp

New Products Feb 26, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Elite MicroPower Inc. has added the EMA1001, a LM4890 pin compatible audio power amplifier featuring improved power supply rejection ratio (PSRR), low 2.2V operating capability, improved pop and click suppression, and an ultra-low shutdown current for extended battery life.

The EMA1001's high PSRR and low shutdown current eliminate the need for additional components, allowing system designers to save space and increase cost-effectiveness. No output coupling capacitors, snubber networks or bootstrap capacitors are needed with this new amplifier. The EMA1001 is available in a MSOP-8 package, which is well suited for the fast growing sub-US$30 mobile handset application.

In addition to its excellent THD+N capability, the EMA1001 is designed to operate down to 2.2V, and still provide 400mW of output power, which is ideal for normal listening, and speakerphone and ringer tone amplification.

"EMA1001 1W mono class A/B audio amplifier fits nicely into our Portable Media Player V43," said Mr. Y.H. Jeon, Senior R&D Manager at Digital Cube, Inc., a leading PMP manufacturer in Korea, "and provides excellent audio quality for our customers."

Mr. Andrew Juang, President at MobilMAX Technology Inc., commented: "EMA1001 is a functionally superior product that delivers excellent audio quality for our PHS model MCP2000. We are proud to be a partner to Elite MicroPower Inc."

The EMA1001 audio amplifier is available in MSOP-8 package and priced at $0.55 in 1,000-unit quantities.
