Elantec Intros EL7563C, EL7564C Synchronous Buck DC/DC Converters

Elantec Semiconductor Inc. (Milpitas, CA) introduced two new 4A single-chip synchronous buck dc/dc converters with integrated power transistors (FETs). The EL7563C and the EL7564C were designed for applications in the communications, graphics, and PC markets that require high-density, small form factor ASIC logic boards, lower operating voltages, smaller PCB space, and higher efficiency power supply designs.

Elantec's EL7563C and EL7564C operate from an input voltage range of 3.0V to 3.6V and 4.5 to 5.5V, respectively. Elantec claims that both products are capable of delivering a current of 4A at up to 95 percent efficiency over the full industrial temperature range of -40 degrees C to 85 degrees C. The EL7563BC and EL7564BC integrate the pulse width modulator (PWM), control logic, a precision reference, and two continuous 4-Amp MOSFETs (transistors) in a 20-pin fuse-lead SOL package.

Power system reliability and monitoring are enhanced by features such as on-chip resistorless current sensing, which provides cycle-by-cycle current limiting, over-current protection, over-temperature protection, automatic thermal shutdown, and over/under voltage protection for monitoring or for automatic disable of the output.

Steve Sacarisen, Elantec's director of strategic marketing for power products said, "The integration of the two MOSFETs reduces total system component count, saves board space, and decreases electromagnetic interference while increasing efficiency and enhancing reliability. Our fully integrated dc/dc converters offer our customers a very high-efficiency, low-cost power system solution."

Both the EL7563C and EL7564C come in a 20-pin SOL package in 1,000-piece quantities for $3.63 each. Samples are available now, with delivery of production quantities in 6 weeks.
