DOSA POLs from C&D Deliver up to 16A at 70 Degrees
C&D Technologies has introduced a series of high efficiency non-isolated point-of-load (POL) dc-dc converters that reduce board space and design complexity by eliminating the need for additional components including, in most applications, heatsinks and external filter circuits.
Combining small form factors with high levels of on-board functionality and efficiency levels to 95.5%, the new LSM2 (surface mount) and LSN2 (through-hole) modules can power CPUs, programmable logic and mixed-voltage systems with minimum noise and heat. In addition to eliminating the need for cooling, low temperature operation also improves reliability and extends product life.
Converters in the new series offer input voltage range options of 2.5-5.5V and 9-14V and are ideal for use in distributed power and intermediate bus architectures. The range comprises a total of six modules (output current options of 6A, 10A and 16A for each input voltage) and can deliver up to 52W of output power (LSN2-T/16-D12).
The rated output power is available at up to +70°C ambient with 200LFM airflow. All devices feature user-selectable outputs of 0.75V to 5V. Voltage selection is made with either an external programming resistor or by a DC voltage applied to the trim pin.
The entire family of converters is fully compliant to the Distributed-power Open Standards Alliance (DOSA) specification. All of the converters are also designed for compliance with the RoHS-6 standards, and will withstand high temperature attachment processes required for assembly in an RoHS-6 application.
Standard features include a "Power Good" output, remote On/Off control with either positive or negative logic, a selectable start-up configuration for sequencing or tracking multiple voltages, and an output sense pin for compensating IR drops. On-board self-protection functionality includes output short circuit protection ‘hiccup' shutdown, OVP and OCP, and over-temperature shutdown.
The LSM2 and LSN2 family have UL 60950, CSA-C22.2 No. 234, and EN60950 safety approvals. Pricing for 1,000 pc quantities (16A) is approximately $13 each and products are available for immediate delivery.
