Bel Fuse Inc. announced the expansion of Bel Power Solutions' front end, ac-dc power supply portfolio to include the PFE1500-12-054xA power supply suitable for a wide range of telecom and networking applications. The 1500-Watt PFE1500-12-054xA provides a main output of 12Vdc for powering intermediate bus architectures (IBA) in high performance and reliability servers, routers, and network switches.

The PFE1500-12-054xA delivers a power density of 35 W/inch 3 and achieves Platinum efficiency (94% efficient at 50% load) in a compact package measuring 54.5 x 40.0 x 321.5 mm. It has the same form factor as existing 1100W and 1300W PFE models.

The PFC stage guarantees the best efficiency and unity power factor over a universal input range of 90- to 264-Vac. The unit uses soft switching resonant techniques to reduce component stresses, providing increased system reliability and very high efficiency, in conjunction with synchronous rectification.

An active OR-ing device on the output ensures no reverse load current and renders the supply ideally suited for operation in redundant power systems. These power supplies are hot swappable and can be connected in parallel with active digital current sharing. The always-on 16.5-Watt programmable standby output, with selectable voltage level 3.3Vdc or 5.0Vdc provides power to external power distribution and management controllers.

The supply is fan cooled and well suited for integration with matching airflow paths. The fan speed is adjusted automatically depending on the actual power demand and supply temperature and can be overridden through the I2C bus. Status information is provided with front-panel LEDs.

For monitoring and control of the unit, the PFE1500-12-054xA features system communications via I2C/PMBusâ„¢ protocol. The I2C bus allows full monitoring of the supply, including input and output voltage, current, power, and inside temperatures.

Multiple protections such as: over-voltage, over-current, over-temperature are standard. RoHS compliant and CE marked, the power supply is safety agency certified per UL/CSA 60950-1 and meets the requirements of EN60950-1. It further meets the conducted and radiated EMI requirements of EN55022-A.
