Corsair Introduces Eco-Friendly Power Supply Family

August 05, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Corsair® unveiled what is described as the environmentally friendly VX Series of power supplies. Designed and engineered for mainstream computer users, both the VX450W and VX550W supplies support the Energy Star® 2007 standard and feature what is claimed to be the industry’s most efficient power-management and ultra-quiet design available.

Unlike most power supplies in the market, the VX Series incorporates a single +12V power rail that delivers continuous power under heavy loads. This conservative design is said to ensure reliable operation in today’s most demanding system configurations and adds compatibility for future platforms. Available in 450 and 550W models, the VX Series is suitable for home theater PCs and Energy Star systems.

With Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) and 80% or more energy efficiency under a wide range of loading conditions, the PSU generates minimal heat during operation. In addition, the thermally controlled double ball-bearing 120mm fan is claimed to deliver excellent air flow with whisper quiet operation.

"Corsair has engineered a power supply that appeals to both the enthusiast as well as the cost conscious system builder," said Jack Peterson, VP of Marketing a Corsair. "We leveraged everything we learned from our award-winning HX Series of modular power supplies to build the most reliable, Eco-friendly value priced PSU in the market," continued Peterson.

The Corsair CMPSU-450VX (450W) and CMPSU-550VX (550W) are available immediately, priced at $85.99 USD MSRP and $99.99 USD MSRP respectively.
