Commergy Intros Quarter-Brick Bus Converter

Commergy Ltd. (Dublin, Ireland) announced a 96 percent, high-efficiency, quarter-brick, bus converter product designed to drive point-of-load converters in intermediate bus architectures in computer, server and raid systems. The Commergy 240W quarter-brick unit provides 12V at 20A and provides basic isolation from a 48V distributed power bus.

The converter uses industry-standard parts and planar magnetics and virtually all its components can be automatically placed by SMT equipment. The usage of planar magnetics in the power train means that there is no transformer winding. The product provides a cost-effective solution in providing basic isolation power to point-of-load converters in systems deploying an intermediate bus architecture. Commergy dc/dc products use synchronous rectification, planar magnetics and a common set of components and processes to provide manufacturing economies of scale in materials and vendor management, and to ease logistics and channel management issues.
