Circuit Maze Electricity Puzzle Game

December 12, 2017 by Paul Shepard

Featured in Purdue University's Engineering Gift Guide, Circuit Maze will ignite logic and sequential reasoning skills in players 8 years old and older. The goal is to arrange the tokens to create a real circuit that lights up the different colored Beacons.

Each Beacon contains a Light Emitting Diode (LED) that glows when current flows through it in the proper direction. Direction is important: Along with producing light, LEDs are one-way electrical valves, they allow current to flow in one direction but not in the other direction.

These clever circuit-building puzzles provide a boost of brainpower and a wonderful introduction to electrical engineering. With 60 challenges ranging in difficulty from beginner to expert, this logic game will provide engineers of all levels with hours of electrifying fun.

There are several different types of circuits that players will encounter in Circuit Maze including a simple closed circuit, short circuits (to be avoided), parallel circuits, series circuits, short circuit bypass in parallel circuits (to be avoided), series/parallel circuits, bypass in series/parallel circuits, metal strips (jumpers) in parallel circuits, and more.

The 3-way Switch token enables the creation of different circuits within the same challenge. For some Switch challenges, one of the Challenge Beacon Settings shows all Beacons to be dark. In these cases, this branch of the circuit stops at the Switch token or loops back on itself, it should not create a short circuit.

Players will want to learn about the various basic circuit configurations to get good at solving the challenges. With the exception of short circuits, the challenges will have variations and combinations of these elements.

The 60 challenges are tricky and clever, providing hours of electrifying fun. Plus, when playing Circuit Maze, players will discover how circuits actually work.
