Christie/Marathon Power Debuts RF80-K Charger

December 19, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

Christie/Marathon Power Technologies (Waco, TX) announced the new RF80-K battery charger/analyzer, which provides enhanced servicing for NiCd and lead-acid batteries. The unit charges, analyzes and reconditions aircraft batteries utilizing the company's ReFLEX charging and DigiFLEX analysis technologies. It tests cell voltage balance, features automatic operation and comes with built-in safety features.

The unit implements ReFLEX charging, constant current charging, two-step current charging and constant potential charging. The technology enables a battery charging time of about an hour. The analyzer function allows for complete, automatic aircraft battery analysis, with a programmable charge/discharge/recharge cycle. In this mode, the unit performs short, long and deep cycles, as well as determines the exact Ah capacity of a battery and performs deep discharge.

Additional features include an optional wait-state after discharge, allowing for battery cooling; a metering function that displays parameter values on a single digital panel meter; voltage and current monitoring; and cell-by-cell testing.
