June 02, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Celestica Inc. (Toronto, Ontario) announced the launch of its Volant Series™ family of non-isolated, dc/dc, point-of-load (POL) converters for use in computer, storage and communications equipment. The Volant Series offers OEMs a compact, low-cost design, with significant improvement in system motherboard real estate over the traditional form factor of POL converters.

Featuring efficiency levels of up to 96%, the high-density Volant Series is available in industry-standard SIP and SMT packages, delivering 10A and 15A current ratings in the SIP model, and a 15A current rating in the SMT model. The Volant Series SMT format is available in a 1.30in x 0.530in x 0.33in form factor, providing an output current of 15A with a voltage range 0.9V to 3.3V. The SIP format has a 2in x 0.327in x 0.50in form factor, and is available with output currents of 10A and 15A. The output-voltage range for the 10A and 15A SIP format is 0.9V to 3.3V.

The Volant Series is available starting May 2003. Pricing at 1,000 units ranges from $13.00 to $14.50 based on output current and package.
