C&D Adds Low-Voltage DC-DC Converters

April 23, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

C&D Technologies has added a choice of low output voltage models to its popular UWR 7-15W series of high-density, single output isolated dc-dc converters. Suitable for use in a wide range of applications including high-end telecom, industrial, transportation and military equipment, the new models provide voltages below 2V in an industry standard 1in. x 2in. package.

Models with output voltages of 1.2V, 1.5V and 1.8V are available. Each of the new additions to the range is able to deliver a continuous output current of up to 6A. Three input voltage ranges are available for each of the new models: 9 to 18 Vdc, 18 to 36 Vdc and 36 to 75 Vdc. The UWR 7-15W series helps engineers reduce overall system cost and simplify their designs by delivering full output power over ambient temperature ranges of -40°C to +60°C without the need for heatsinks or forced-air cooling.

The new dc-dc converters are fully isolated (1,500 Vdc) and include a comprehensive list of standard features that boasts numerous protection features that help reduce the need for additional external circuitry, including: input under voltage and over voltage lockout, input reverse-polarity protection, output overvoltage protection, output current limiting and continuous short-circuit protection. Optional functions include on/off control and output trimming.

Packaged in a low-cost, lightweight, UL94V-0 rated plastic package, the UWR 7-15W series achieves EMC compliance through low-noise design rather than metal shielding solutions. All models in the series are UL60950/EN60950 certified. RoHS compliant versions of this series are also available now.
