Beta Dyne Unveils Options for Low-Noise 10 W Converters

New Products Jul 10, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Beta Dyne Inc. (Bridgewater, MA) announced two additional case options for its low-noise, 10 W dc-dc converter series that brings ultra-low noise performance to equipment and applications that employ older industry pinout arrangements. The dc-dc converters that fit these older sockets currently limit the user to a 10% input-voltage range; with the new case options, the low-noise 10 W dc-dc converter series can now be dropped into the older systems and improve performance and flexibility by offering a wide 2:1 input-voltage range (with 3:1 and 4:1 available upon request), with less than 5 mV of output noise.

The new case options increase the choice of industry pinout arrangements offered by the low-noise 10 W dc-dc converter series to a total of three. The series was originally launched in January 2004 with a standard nine-pin pinout. The new A1 case features a 2:3 pin arrangement and the A2 case features a 3:3 pin arrangement. The low-noise 10 W dc-dc converter series incorporates low switching noise techniques at its input and output sections. Output noise is reduced to 5 mVpp through the use of low dropout linear regulators, while a patented control circuit maintains minimum constant dropout voltage over line and load temperature and the output adjust range. Standard features include less than 5 mV of output noise, efficiency up to 86%, single and dual outputs, adjustable outputs (available on single-output models), soft-start, short-circuit protection, 1 mA off-state current, 250 mV dropout linear regulators, dual-output tracking linear regulator, 5 µsec transient response time, and six-sided shielding.

The converters come packaged in a 2.0 in x 1.0 in x 0.395 in coated metal case. The standard operating temperature range is from -40 °C to +75 °C; optional versions with an extended operating temperature range of -55 °C to +85 °C are also available. Units are available four to six weeks ARO. Pricing for the low-noise 10 W series starts at $55.60 each for the single-output models and $59.30 for the dual-output models; discounts available for larger quantities.
