AVX Unveils New BestCap Series Supercapacitors

New Products Feb 23, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

AVX Corp. (Myrtle Beach, SC), a manufacturer and supplier of passive electronic components and related products, announced that it has made significant advances to its Battery Energy Saving Technology Capacitor (BestCap™) Series of electrochemical supercapacitors, resulting in high voltages for low ESR pulse supercapacitors.

The BestCap electrochemical double layer pulse products are now available in BZ05 and BZ06 cases, with an expanded capacitance/voltage range of 500 mF/3.3 V to 90 mF/12 V, with sub-100 mΩ ESR and DCL in the range of 5 µA to 40 µA.

The company's patented, aqueous polymer chemistry makes the BestCap a fully RoHS-compliant, environment-friendly, non-hazardous device, with pulse performance over alternative organic technologies. The component’s ultrathin construction offers high energy per volume. The new BZ05 package targets pulse hold-up applications from server/ADSL to wireless/electromechanical AMR (automated meter reader), while the BZ06 is a special low-profile device for digital cameras and PCMCIA.

Pricing for BestCap starts at $3.25 in quantities of 10,000.
