AVX Releases New TransGuard Series of Transient Voltage Suppressors

June 18, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

AVX Corp.'s (Myrtle Beach, SC) TransGuard Series of bi-directional transient voltage suppressors are suitable substitutes for TVS diodes, offering electronic circuit design engineers a reliable transient voltage-protection solution to densely packed circuit boards in next-generation products.

The TransGuard Series 0402 chips are available in 5.6V, 9V, 14V and 18V, with a 50mJ energy rating, and a typical capacitance range from less than 90pF at 18V to 360pF at 5.6V. A StaticGuard low-capacitance version offers typical capacitance of 40pF, with an energy rating of 20mJ. The 0402 chips are rated for operation over the full temperature range from -55 degrees to +125 degrees C. The 0402 TransGuard Series chips are packaged in 7" reels in 4,000- and 10,000-piece quantities and are compatible with high-speed placement equipment.

"The Transguard Series provides design engineers with superior TVS characteristics over silicon alternatives," said AVX Product Manager Jack Bush.

Pricing ranges from $0.12 to $0.13 for quantities of 100,000 in 8 to 10 weeks.
