AVO International Develops Multi-Amp Pulsar Hand-Held Controller

May 06, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

AVO International (Dallas, TX) has developed a new multi-amp pulsar hand-held controller, the HHC-1, to remotely control its Pulsar Relay Test System. The controller gives the user the ability to remotely perform all of the Pulsar's front-panel functions to enable closer observation of the relay device actually being tested as shown on the controller's digital display.

AVO claims that the controller remotely tests virtually all protective relays commonly found in generation plants, transmission and distribution substations and heavy industrial plants. In addition, the controller provides more convenient dynamic testing compared with the manual set-up of the Pulsar front panel keypad.

The controller's digital adjustable knob is designed to make setting test values easier and manual testing of protective relays faster. AVO reports that the controller is able to simultaneously or independently control voltage, current and phase angle. The controller can also save and recall up to 32 pre-set files, enabling the operator to pre-set relay parameters before testing commences in the field.
