Automotive-rated Conductive Polymer Hybrid Electrolytics

June 21, 2016 by Jeff Shepard

Panasonic Corporation announced that it has developed Conductive Polymer Hybrid Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors delivering large capacitance and large current in compact size (SMD type). These devices are suited for automotive ECUs, power supply circuits of HEV, EV and gasoline-powered vehicles, and so on. The new product enabled instantaneous large current supply to power supply circuits, making possible to expand to the applications of compact motor driving assistance in accordance with electromechanical integration, and large motor driving assistance with power train motorization.

A high voltage rating is realized by the polymer and liquid electrolyte (80Vdc maximum). These devices have an operating lifetime of 4000 hours at 125 degrees C. Vibration-proof products are available upon request is sizes of φ8 mm and larger.

This new product has the following features: Large capacity in compact size, contributing to ECU downsizing and direct mounting on ECU engines, Static capacitance of 470uF at 25Vdc (Panasonic’s conventional products are rated for 330uF at 25Vdc); Large current in compact size, contributing to instantaneous large current supply for motor driving, Ripple current of 2800mArms (Panasonic’s conventional products are rated for 2000mArms); Dimensions (mm) are diameter 10.0 × height 10.2 in a SMD type enables automatic mounting on PCB.
