New Products Jan 15, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

austriamicrosystems AG (Graz, Austria) unveiled the AS3603, an enhanced version of its AS3601 power management unit (PMU) platform. Providing mobile device manufacturers with a versatile power management IC, this integrated real-time programmable power management IC delivers price/performance characteristics, consuming 60% less PCB space and costing 50% less than comparable solutions.

The AS3603 features a highly efficient, dc-dc down-converter and ultra-low power LDOs, all programmable in 0.05V steps, to ensure operating time. The AS3603's feature set also includes a highly efficient driver for white LEDs and a programmable 1W audio amplifier suitable for hands-free mobile phone applications – all on a single chip. Mono to differential conversion of the audio signal, which has been integrated into the AS3603, delivers high power output for the hands-free function while eliminating the need for costly, space-consuming external components.

The AS3603 is available in a QFN48, 6mm x 6mm, 0.4mm pitch packaging or QFN48, 7mm x 7mm, 0.5mm pitch packaging, and is priced at approximately $1.70 in high-volume production quantities.
