Astec Power Intros ALT Series DC/DC Converters

New Products Jun 02, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Astec Power (Carlsbad, CA) introduced its new single-output and dual-output dc/dc converters, the ALT Series, in a compact 1.6in x 2in x 0.38in package that delivers up to 25W from a single-output module, or 30W from a dual-output module, at a typical efficiency of 87%. The devices are suitable for instrumentation and Internet-working devices, such as hubs and routers, as well as automated test and measurement.

Designed to deliver 6A from the 3.3V output, 5A from the 5V output, 1.25A from the ±12V and 3A from the ±5V, the ALT models operate with 200LFM of airflow across the unit at an ambient air temperature of 55°C. The ALT Series is rated for input-voltage surges of up to 100V for 100msec, and up to 1,500Vdc across its primary-to-secondary isolation barrier. Standard features for the ALT Series include output voltages adjustable to ±10%; under-voltage lockout with hysteresis; and over-temperature, over-current and over-voltage protection.

With a wide input-voltage range of 36V to 75V, and an excellent temperature coefficient of +0.02%/°C, the new converters are suitable for data and telecommunications applications, including wireless transmitters, receivers and base stations. The wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +100°C ensures reliable operation in most environments.
