Artesyn Technologies Launches EXQ60 Series of Converters
Artesyn Technologies (Boca Raton, FL) launched a new series of dual-output dc/dc converters that provide up to 60W from an industry-standard quarter-brick package. The new EXQ60 Series features an input voltage range of 33Vdc to 75Vdc, and are available with 5V/3.3V or 3.3V/2.5V outputs. Both models employ an open-frame construction and measure 2.3in x 1.5in x 0.5in. They are suitable for use in networking, telecommunications and wireless applications, especially for systems employing a distributed power architecture.
The EXQ60 Series of converters uses synchronous rectification. The 5V/3.3V model is claimed to have a typical efficiency of 91 percent and can deliver up to 60W of output power. The converters’ open-frame construction means that there are no thermally conductive potting compounds between power-dissipating components and heat-sensitive control circuits. A two-board stacked structure is employed to further thermally de-couple these two areas. The baseplate board containing the synchronous rectifiers is a two-layer thermally conductive substrate laminated to an aluminum plate. The overall design has an operating temperature range spanning from -40 to 100 degrees C ambient to baseplate temperature.
Designed for fully automated assembly, the EXQ60 Series converters are constructed entirely from SMT components and have a standard quarter-brick footprint. They offer an output-voltage trim facility that enables the output to be adjusted between 90 and 110 percent of nominal. Both converters in the series also offer remote on/off facility. The converters have no minimum-load requirement, and are comprehensively protected against over-voltage, over-temperature and short-circuit conditions. The new dc/dc converters have a 1,500Vdc isolation rating and carry a full set of international safety approvals, including EN60950 (TUV Rheinland) and UL/cUL1950.
The EXQ60 Series converters are available to OEMs for $66.23, when ordered in quantities of 10,000.
