AMREL Introduces Military Grade Fixed Power Supply

February 02, 2009 by Jeff Shepard

American Reliance Inc. (AMREL) introduced its new ePower MFP300 military grade fixed power supply. AMREL states that it developed the MFP300 to address a ground based military application requiring an ultra-compact, powerful, clean and MIL-STD rugged 28Vdc/300W dc power supply.

AMREL states that it engineered a blueprint to overcome three major technical limitations of existing solutions; convection-cooled with power dissipating components in an ultra-compact MIL-STD Rugged package, 440Hz PFC input while meeting MIL-STD 461E EMI/RFI standards and a precision-regulated dc output with less than 2mVrms of noise. Having exceeded the design targets, AMREL states that it is now ready to launch what it describes as an industry first – the silent, sealed and rugged C.O.T.S. MFP300.

AMREL’s military-grade MFP300 is said to effectively power dc devices in the harshest outdoor conditions. The devices enclose 300W in a 12 x 7.6 x 3.5" package – 300W enclosed in 320 in³ of anodized hardware weighing just over 8lbs. The conformal coated internal dc power engine is enclosed in a rain, dust, sleet and sand resistant package, sealed watertight and then extensively tested under temperature cycles from -40 - 70°C.

The MFP300 utilizes what is described as an innovative interleaved PFC design that takes auto-ranging 85~250Vac and 5~440Hz ac input and also can run off of 95~250Vdc. The dc-operable input and 440Hz operating frequency are unique features exclusive to AMREL’s MFP series.

For applications with a 400Hz ac generator or a dc power source, simply plugging in AMREL’s MFP300 can power devices on your aerial or ground vehicle with an adjustable dc voltage from 24~28Vdc @ 300W. The MFP300 generates a precision-regulated dc output with a ripple of 2mVrms, providing a source for noise-sensitive devices. The device is designed according to MIL-STD 810F Shock and Vibration standards as well as MIL-STD 461E EMI/RFI standards.
