April 30, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

American Power Conversion Corp. (West Kingston, RI) has improved its award-winning Smart-UPS line with the introduction of its auto-sensing rack-mount and tower UPSs. The new UPSs provide global power protection, which can be implemented in domestic or international applications regardless of the local country supply voltage.

The company's new auto-sensing Smart-UPS units, available in 3U, 2,200VA rack-mount and 700VA tower models, offer a compact, line-interactive design providing users with an efficient, cost-effective solution for global applications. The new units will automatically adapt the input voltage to 120Vac output, and all units will ship with North American, European and British detachable input cords.

This technology solution is ideal for equipment that needs to work anywhere, regardless of the power supply that is available. The auto-sensing Smart-UPS will be available in May 2000. Estimated resale pricing for the 2,200VA rack-mount is $2,000, and 700VA tower units are $825.
