Allegro Intros A3949 DMOS Motor Driver IC

February 05, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Allegro MicroSystems Inc. (Worcester, MA) announced its new A3949 DMOS full-bridge, motor driver IC, which is designed for pulse-width modulated (PWM) control of dc motors. The A3949 is capable of peak output currents to ±2.8 A and operating voltages to 36 V.

"Phase" and "enable" input terminals are provided for use in controlling the speed and direction of a dc motor with externally applied PWM control signals. Internal synchronous rectification control circuitry is provided to reduce power dissipation during PWM operation. Internal circuit protection includes thermal shutdown with hysteresis, under-voltage monitoring of VBB and VCP, and crossover current protection.

The A3949 is supplied in either a 16-lead, thermally enhanced, TSSOP package, or a 16-lead SOIC package with copper batwing tab. The A3949 is priced at $1.40 for quantities of 10,000.
