Advanced Energy Launches Ruggedized 160 W AC-DC Power Supply
The DF150 is the first in the company's Defiant Future series, targeting defense and industrial applications with MIL-STD certifications and fanless operation down to -46°C.
Advanced Energy Industries has introduced the DF150, a 160 W ruggedized AC-DC power supply built for extreme-environment applications across the defense, industrial, telecommunications, transportation, and energy sectors.
The DF150 is the inaugural product in the company's Defiant Future (DF) series, a line of standard power supplies designed to deliver custom-grade performance with shorter lead times than bespoke military power solutions typically require.

Built for Harsh Conditions
Denver-based Advanced Energy is marketing the DF150 as a bridge between fully custom-designed military power supplies and commercial off-the-shelf products. Custom builds in the defense power supply space can stretch lead times to months and carry significant engineering costs. The DF150 offers a standardized, cataloged alternative validated against the same military specifications those custom solutions target.
Backed by rigorous testing, it carries certifications to MIL-STD-810H, covering shock, vibration, altitude variations, and thermal extremes, and MIL-STD-461G for electromagnetic compatibility, with compliance spanning RE102, CE102, CS101, CS114, CS115, CS116, CS118, and RS103.
It also delivers 27 VDC at up to 5.93 A and operates across a wide temperature range of -46°C to 60°C, making it suitable for field-deployed systems in some of the most demanding climates on Earth. Its IP67 ingress rating means it can withstand full submersion in water at depths up to one meter for 30 minutes, exceeding standard military ingress protection requirements for both dust and liquids.
On the electrical side, the supply accepts universal AC input from 90 VAC to 264 VAC at 47 Hz to 63 Hz, accommodating global power infrastructure without separate regional variants. Hold-up time is rated at 16 ms minimum at full load, providing a buffer during brief power interruptions.

Efficiency reaches 90% minimum at full load and 25°C ambient, with no minimum load requirement for stable operation. This lack of a minimum load requirement is ideal for systems that cycle through varying power states, as the DF150 maintains regulation even with no load connected.
Isolation voltage is rated at 3,000 VAC input-to-output and 1,500 VAC input-to-ground, with 500 VDC output-to-ground isolation. Built-in protections cover overvoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature conditions, and leakage current stays below 275 µA at 230 VAC.
The unit is available in two fanless cooling configurations: conduction cooling via base plate or convection cooling with a mounted heatsink. Eliminating the fan removes a mechanical failure point, a meaningful advantage in remote or sealed enclosures with limited maintenance access. The design also supports customization, with configurable input cable options and case color variants available for system integrators working to specific platform requirements.
Standard Power, Military Performance
The Defiant Future series is Advanced Energy's entry into a product segment that has traditionally been the domain of custom engineering houses. Defense power supply procurement has long since involved a tension between the performance guarantees of a purpose-built solution and the cost and schedule advantages of a standard product. The DF150 attempts to resolve that tension by packaging military-grade validation into a repeatable, stocked design.
The company describes the DF150 as delivering the high performance of a custom solution with the availability of a regular commercial product. For defense integrators and industrial OEMs working under tight timelines, this could cut procurement cycles from months to weeks while still meeting the environmental and EMC requirements program managers need to see on a spec sheet.
Advanced Energy Industries, headquartered in Denver, specializes in precision power conversion, measurement, and control solutions. The company serves industries including semiconductor manufacturing, data center infrastructure, industrial automation, and defense. Its product portfolio spans AC-DC and DC-DC power supplies, plasma generators, and embedded power modules. The DF150 carries CE marking covering LVD, EMC, and RoHS directives, along with EN 61000 immunity compliance and EMI Class B certification.
As the first product in the Defiant Future line, the DF150 suggests Advanced Energy is building out a broader family of ruggedized standard supplies. The company hasn’t yet disclosed specifications or timelines for additional DF-series products, but the naming convention and product architecture point toward a modular approach that could scale to other power levels and form factors as the line matures.
