Adequate Energy Intros Ultra-Wide Input DC-DC Converter

April 18, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Adequate Energy announces the release of its new compact 15A dc-dc converter with one of the widest input voltage ranges (16-84 Vdc) and efficiency up to 96%. Combined with its small size, dust proof packaging, low EMI and stable output voltage makes it suited for industrial, marine and renewable energy applications.

Adequate Energy's dc-dc converter has an ultra wide input voltage range of 16-84V and with up to 15A continuous current output at 12V / 13.6V / 15V. The converter has ultra high efficiency of over 96% from 2A to 12A load at 24Vin and over 95% from 2A to 10A at 48Vin. This high efficiency enables it to be one of the smallest and lightest converters in industry, weighing less than 240 grams and with a footprint of only 82 mm by 64 mm (3.2 by 2.5 in).

The converter comes with fail safe circuitry to prevent the high input voltage from reaching the output in case of semiconductor failure. It has line and load regulation of ± 0.1% and has a fast 50uS load transient response resulting in a stable output voltage. All ceramic capacitor construction and cool running semiconductors give it a calculated MTBF of over 1 million hours. The converter comes in six sided aluminium housing with low EMI.

Samples and production are available for evaluation at $60 per unit beginning in May.
