AC-DC Converter ICs with Integrated FETs

New Products Feb 14, 2017 by Jeff Shepard

The STR6A100HZ family from Sanken Electric are power ICs for switching power supplies, incorporating a MOSFET and a current mode pwm controller IC. The operation mode is automatically changed, in response to load, to the fixed switching frequency, to the switching frequency control, and to the burst oscillation mode. Thus the power efficiency is improved.

The product achieves high cost-performance power supply systems with few external components and it suitable for applications including standby power supply, small size appliances, and adapters including white goods, office automation equipment, audio visual equipment, industrial equipment, and similar applications

The STR6A169HZ features a FET with an RDS(on) of 6.0Ω and will support loads up to 19.5W when used in an open-frame design operating from 85- to 265-Vac. The STR6A161HZ includes a 3.95Ω power FET and can support loads up to 23.5W when used in a similar open-frame design. The STR6A163HZ has a FET with an RDS(on) of 2.3Ω and can handle loads up to 28W, also in a similar open-frame design.

Features include: no load power consumption under 25mW; automatically changing of operation mode in response to load conditions (Fixed switching frequency mode, 100 kHz (typ.) in normal operation; Green mode, 25 kHz (typ.) to 100 kHz (typ.) in middle to light load; and Burst oscillation mode in light load); Random Switching Function; Slope Compensation Function; Leading Edge Blanking Function; Bias Assist Function; Pulse-by-pulse over current limiting; overload protection with auto restart; latched overvoltage protection and latched thermal shutdown.
