New Products Jul 08, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. (Carp, Ontario, Canada) debuted a 500 VA sine wave frequency converter, the FC500-C, which converts an auto-ranging input of 115 Vac/230 Vac (±15%) at 47 Hz to 63Hz to 115 Vrms/4.34 A at 60 Hz. The output can be adjusted within a 105 V to 130 Vac range via an internal potentiometer. The FC500-C meets the requirements of MIL-STD 461, making it suitable for various military platforms and installations, as well as for other critical applications requiring low conducted and radiated EMI.

The FC500-C system incorporates high-frequency pulse-width modulated (PWM) technology to synthesize a regulated sinusoidal waveform with less than 5% total harmonic distortion at full load. The unit is fan-cooled and rated for operation over 0 °C to 50 °C. Extended temperature ranges are also available. The FC500-C is housed in a ruggedly constructed 6.25 in x 5.9 in x 16.75 in enclosure and weighs 10.9 kg. Other frequency converters in this line include 1,500 VA, 3,000 VA, 6,000 VA and 12,000 VA models with either single- or three-phase inputs and outputs.

The FC500-C is priced at $933 for quantities of one to four.
