February 24, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. (Carp, Ontario, Canada) debuted its new RWY200, a recent addition to its RWY Series of rugged, high-density, dc-dc converters. Designed for railway, airborne, military, marine, off-shore and land-based industrial applications, the RWY200 provides a complete 200 W power solution in a 2.7 in x 8.25 in x 2.3 in enclosure that weighs 1.3 kg.

The new push-pull converter employs advanced FET technology to deliver 3.3 Vdc/30 A, 5 Vdc/30 A, 12 Vdc/16 A, 13.8 Vdc/15 A and 24 Vdc/8 A. The output is limited to a maximum of 30 A. The single-input unit accepts inputs of 48 Vdc (28 Vdc to 67 Vdc), 72 Vdc (43 Vdc to 101 Vdc) or 110 Vdc (65 Vdc to 160 Vdc).

The RWY200 is fully encapsulated within a thermally conductive, MIL-specification, silicon rubber compound to ensure immunity to shock, vibration, humidity, moisture, dust and insects. It is conduction cooled via a base plate and performs to full specification at temperatures of between -40 °C and +70 °C. The EMI performance exceeds the requirements of EN55022 Class B and EN50121-3-2, conducted and radiated. The unit also conforms to the requirements of EN50155 (IEC571) for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock.

The new RWY200 converter is priced at $292 for quantities of 100.
