Absopulse Announces New 500W Plug-In Module with PFC Input

October 18, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. introduced a 500W, ruggedly constructed 6U x 220mm x 16HP plug-in (Eurocard) module designed for shallow-depth applications in industrial and other heavy-duty environments – the PFC622. It is rated for 24 or 48Vdc applications and accepts a power factor corrected universal input of 90 to 264Vac. Other input/output configurations are available upon request. A built-in redundancy diode allows for parallel connection or N+1 redundancy.

The PFC622 utilizes asynchronous technology for the PFC-input stage and half-bridge topology after the input stage. The power factor is corrected to a minimum of 0.97 at full load for the entire input range in compliance with EN6100-3-2. It is filtered to meet EN55022 Class A EMI requirements as a minimum and, with additional (optional) filtering, will meet Class B EMI.

This plug-in module features a module fail alarm with an opto-coupler output, output ripple/noise of less than 1% peak-to-peak, combined line/load regulation of less than ±1% from zero load to full load, active inrush current limiting and overvoltage protection. Minimum efficiency is 80% at full load.

Indicators (output voltage "on" LED), voltage adjust and test points are located on the front panel. The PFC622 is convection cooled and rated for full specification for temperatures of 0 to 50°C, with extended temperature ranges also available. PFC622 modules would typically be delivered in pre-wired 19" or 23" racks which can accommodate up to five modules.

Standard PFC622 plug-in modules are priced at US$518 each in quantities of 100.
