Absopulse Adds 50W, Encapsulated DC-DC Converter For Railway & Other Heavy Duty Applications

February 05, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. announced the RWY 50-72/48 – a recent addition to its RWY series of rugged dc-dc converters. Designed for operation in railway and other harsh environments, this 50W, single output converter delivers 48Vdc, and accepts an input voltage of 72Vdc (42 to 110Vdc range). Although described as a unique input/output configuration, the design is based on the same field-proven topology as the company’s extensive range of encapsulated dc-dc converters.

The converter meets the stringent requirements of EN 50155 for electronic equipment used on railway rolling stock. It also meets EN 50121-3-2 (EMI and EMC) and EN 55022 Class B EMI, with wide margins. Full encapsulation in a thermally conductive MIL-spec. silicon rubber compound ensures immunity to shock, vibration, moisture, salt and airborne contaminants. The RWY 50-72/48 is designed to meet IEC 61373 Categories 1 A & B and Category 2 shock and vibration standards. Conduction cooled via a base plate, the unit performs to full specification at temperatures from -40 to 70°C, cold plate. Its compact P100 chassis measures 2.3 x 7.1 x 2.4".

The RWY 50-72/48 is priced at US$155 at quantities of 100.
