TI To Develop Products for New Qi Wireless Power Standard

September 07, 2010 by Jeff Shepard

Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) announced its adoption of the Wireless Power Consortium’s (WPC) Qi standard. The V1.0 specification outlines the function and performance of an interoperable wireless charging system. The ratification of the standard is a significant step toward industry-wide adoption of wireless charging technology.

"We believe standardization is one of the most critical steps toward universal adoption of this technology," said Masoud Beheshti, Director of Worldwide Strategic Marketing and Applications for TI’s Power Management Business Unit. "As we demonstrated at CES 2010, TI is committed to roll out cost-effective and efficient solutions in the coming months to further enable manufacturers to introduce products with wireless charging capability to the market."

The WPC includes industry stakeholders like TI whose efforts drove the development of the Qi standard.
