Semitrex taking its Case to Congress

June 29, 2015 by Jeff Shepard

Semitrex LLC, a fabless semiconductor company, announced today that in an effort to address the global energy crisis, Michael Freeman, CEO and CTO, is introducing the company's TRONIUM™ technology to Capitol Hill and select Committees of the House and Senate. Freeman's goal is to bring a greater level of awareness to government officials, and the general public, of existing technology solutions that can help address the energy efficiency issue. To that end, Semitrex has enlisted global law firm Hogan Lovells to assist in taking its message to Congress and the U.S. Department of Energy. Freeman is presenting the TRONIUM PSSoC solutions to key Congressional Committee staff in the House and Senate. Freeman will also address the European Commission in July.

Semitrex's core energy efficiency power supply technologies improve the way that power conversions are made in order to create a significant increase in power efficiency. Specifically, Semitrex technology has the ability to convert AC power worldwide to virtually any lower voltage with over 90 percent efficiency (across all current loads) from 50 milliamps up, with less than one milliwatt of standby draw power.

"Everyone is looking for better energy efficiency," noted primary inventor Michael H. Freeman, J.D., CEO and CTO for Semitrex. "Our muxcapacitorâ„¢ cascading technology utilizes capacitive rather than inductive conversions for the primary voltage reduction. This new technology permits us to create the first comprehensive power conversion breakthrough the industry has seen in decades, which produces the highest energy efficiencies and the lowest standby power draws. Our cooler-running TRONIUM PSSoC requires less than a milliwatt of standby power to stay ready to respond to the next current demand."

According to Hogan Lovells partner Aaron Cutler, formerly deputy policy director and counsel to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, "The energy crisis is a global one, and addressing it has become a priority for governments around the world. Semitrex is truly a pioneer in the power supply field. They are tackling the energy issue head-on by providing innovative new solutions that can be implemented around the globe." In his role as law firm partner, Cutler leverages the depth of his congressional staff experience and relationships to bring regulatory matters before Congress in sectors including energy and natural resources.

The energy problem is so serious that the Department of Energy is enacting new Energy Efficiency Level VI Standards -- set to take effect in 2016 -- that place stringent limitations to output current in power supplies. Many consumer electronic companies have sought exemptions from, or delays to, the new regulations because of the difficulty they are having meeting the increased energy efficiency standards. However, Semitrex's congressional message is that their TRONIUM Power Supply System on a Chip (PSSoC) efficiency beats the new Energy Efficiency Standards by between 200 and 1000 times (depending on the level of wattage used).

In addition, the European Commission Energy Efficiency Directive established a set of binding measures to help the EU reach its 20 percent increased energy efficiency target by 2020. Under the directive, all EU countries are required to use energy more efficiently at all stages of the energy chain -- from production to final consumption. In Europe, Semitrex's TRONIUM PSSoC bests the standards by between 30 and 100 times.

Semitrex addresses worldwide energy efficiency goals by improving the way that power conversions are made. Semitrex uses capacitive voltage conversions as the primary method of voltage reduction rather than traditional topologies which rely on inductive parts for voltage conversions.

According to Freeman, "Hogan Lovells' industry and regulatory knowledge and unique understanding of the way government operates is a huge asset as we look to share our technology. Their global reach helps us to get our energy efficiency message out to the world. Our TRONIUM suite of innovative power management solutions eliminates energy waste today, while also targeting the higher efficiency power demands of the future, which includes the Internet of Things."
