QuestAir's HyQuestor System Installed in US Station

November 17, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

QuestAir Technologies Inc. (Burnaby, BC) announced that its commercial HyQuestor® hydrogen purification system has been installed as a key component of the Hydrogen Energy Station in Las Vegas, NV, the first integrated hydrogen vehicle fueling and power generation facility in North America. A formal dedication ceremony for the Energy Station was held at the West Fleet Vehicle Center in Las Vegas.

As deployed in the station, QuestAir's HyQuestor® system purifies a hydrogen-containing gas stream extracted or reformed from natural gas. The purified hydrogen is then used to fuel City of Las Vegas transit buses and other vehicles, or a stationary 50kW fuel cell electricity generator. The demonstration project was funded by the US Department of Energy (DOE, Washington, DC), and the prime contractor is Air Products and Chemicals Inc. (Allentown, PA). The fuel cell power generator is a product of Plug Power Inc. (Latham, NY).

Jonathan Wilkinson, president and CEO of QuestAir, said, "We are very pleased that Air Products has chosen QuestAir's HyQuestor® system as the hydrogen purification solution for this high-profile energy station project. Hydrogen refueling stations that extract hydrogen from natural gas require compact, efficient hydrogen purification, and QuestAir's advanced pressure swing adsorption technology is ideally suited to meet this need."
