Proton Energy Systems Inc. (Wallingford, CT), a hydrogen generator and regenerative fuel cell company, announced the promotion of Larry Sweet to President, which is based upon the steady progress achieved under his leadership at Proton, and is part of an overall reorganization in anticipation of the company's completion of the Northern Power Systems Inc. acquisition.

Sweet will be responsible for all business aspects of Proton Energy Systems. Walter Schroeder will transition from CEO and president of Proton to president of the corporate parent company, which will hold Proton and Northern as separate subsidiaries following the closing of the Northern Power Systems acquisition. Clint Coleman will remain as president of Northern.

"I wish to thank our board of directors for their confidence and for this promotion. The overall team effort of all Proton employees during the past six months has been outstanding. We are creating a culture of winning teams that are rewarded for outstanding performance," said Sweet. "We have made solid progress in creating reliable products that offer true value and quality to our customers. Our next challenges are increasing sales to their full potential and making quarter-by-quarter progress towards profitability."
