O2Micro Charges Sony and Rohm with Patent Infringement

August 01, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

O2Micro International Ltd. (George Town, Grand Cayman), a supplier of power management and security ICs to mobile computer and communications manufacturers, has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Sony Corp. (Japan) and Rohm Co. Ltd. (Japan), charging the firms violated three of its patents. O2Micro holds 18 patents in the United States for its inverter technology, which is used in liquid crystal display (LCD) products such as televisions, monitors, notebooks, and DVD players.

02Micro is also seeking injunctions against the companies which, if granted, would prevent them from importing to the United States products such as some Sony LCD televisions and other LCD products that contain certain Rohm integrated circuits.
