NEC Electronics to Build New Wafer Facility

April 05, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

NEC Electronics Corp. (Japan), and wholly owned subsidiary NEC Yamagata Ltd., will build a new semiconductor factory on NEC Yamagata's main plant grounds. The new facility will occupy 11,500 m² and will be designated for 300 mm wafer production. It will be adjacent to another 300 mm wafer fab line currently under construction.

The new facility will have total processing capacity of 10,000 wafers per month once production equipment is installed and operational. Construction is scheduled to begin in May, and the facility is expected to be completed in December. The new facility's cost is expected to be about $47.5 million or 5 billion yen.
