Motorola to Establish $500M China Research Unit

Motorola Inc. (Austin, TX) announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese government to invest $90 million in establishing a research company in Beijing. Motorola expects the research company to spend $500 million over the next five years on human resources and equipment. No other details were given.

"China is an important market for Motorola worldwide as well as a manufacturing base and research center for the company," said Mike Zafirovski, president and COO.
