MGE UPS Systems Enhances Comet UPS Line with GUI

August 07, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

MGE UPS Systems Inc. (Costa Mesa, CA), a developer of high-availability power solutions, has enhanced the graphical user interface (GUI) display on its line of Comet uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) with power ratings from 40 kVA to 150 kVA. The 5.7 in color LCD touch-screen display displays the status of a critical power system and includes active mimic diagrams and alarm/event logs that complement the Comet's controls.

The new GUI offers enhanced system and component level information, including active mimic diagrams comprised of six color screens that provide detailed real-time information on load status, alarms, battery measurement, input power status, and setup; an alarm and event system that tracks and logs all changes in UPS status with corresponding date and time stamps via two screens (present alarms and alarm history); a trending record of key parameters that aids in keeping an accurate measurement of UPS performance; and a detailed component status that provides a detailed view of the status of each UPS component from battery management to output power.

In addition, the GUI (available for use with Windows or Linux operating systems) serves as a stand-alone web server with its own IP address and Ethernet connection. By using the built-in network interface card to connect to an existing network, users will be able to view and operate the device using an Internet browser. The unit provides conventional HTML tags detailing UPS data, enabling simple integration of UPS information with other management systems.

The new display is standard on all Comet systems shipping now.
