Marina Energy to Support Cogeneration Plant

January 16, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

South Jersey Industries (Folsom, NJ), the energy holding company for South Jersey Gas and South Jersey Energy, announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Marina Energy LLC, has signed an agreement to design and build a cogeneration plant and a three-year agreement to provide operations management support to the plant at Johnson Matthey (West Deptford, NJ).

The cogeneration plant will produce 6MW of electricity and 10,000lb/hr of steam. In addition, a 1,200HP boiler will be installed. The equipment is designed to meet the growing needs of Johnson Matthey's facility. The operating efficiencies of the cogeneration plant will save Johnson Matthey about 25 percent per year in energy-related costs. The plant will cost about $9 million and will be operational in 2003.
