Lineage Power Achieves 80 Plus Platinum Certification

June 09, 2010 by Jeff Shepard

Lineage Power Corp. announced that its CAR1612FP and CP2725TE rectifiers are the first 12 and 48V power supplies to obtain the 80 PLUS® Platinum power-efficiency certification. The 80 PLUS Platinum certification helps manufacturers easily identify power supplies that lead the industry in energy efficiency while lowering utility and cooling costs.

"Lineage Power’s latest rectifiers demonstrate the company’s ingenuity in energy efficiency and set a new high-efficiency benchmark for datacom and telecom environments," said Mohan Mankikar, President of Micro-Tech Consultants.

The CAR1612FP is a 12V power supply that delivers 94% efficiency at 50% of load. The CP2725TE is a 48V rectifier that achieves efficiency of 95.5% at 50% load. Both rectifiers exceed the 80 PLUS Platinum efficiency requirements of 90% at 20% load, 94% at 50% load and 91% at 100% load. Lineage Power is also introducing the CAR0812FP, a 12V rectifier in an industry-leading, space-saving design that is 20 to 40% smaller than competitor offerings while achieving 80 PLUS Gold certification with efficiency greater than 92%. These rectifiers have a power factor correction (PFC) of .99 at full load and are part of Lineage Power’s Total Efficiency™ architecture, designed to lower utility and cooling costs through end-to-end solutions for communications, computing and storage applications—ranging from telecom energy systems to OEM power supplies and board mounted power modules.

80 PLUS is a certification and incentive program, funded by electric utilities and energy efficiency organizations, to integrate more energy-efficient power supplies into desktop computers and servers. When using a product certified by the 80 PLUS organization, the customer is assured that the power supply is tested to the highest levels of power efficiency available in the market to help reduce carbon footprints, conserve energy resources, and obtain a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Platinum level, which is the highest level of certification, requires power supplies to have efficiency levels of 90 to 94% across multiple load conditions and a PFC of .95 or greater.

"We are excited to achieve the highest 80 PLUS Platinum level power-efficiency certification and proud to introduce an ultra-compact 850W design," said Mike Wagner, Vice President and general manager for Lineage Power’s Embedded OEM division. "As the first power supply manufacturer to deliver 80 PLUS Platinum efficiency across both 12V and 48V applications, we have a strong validation of our Total Efficiency architecture, providing cost-effective solutions that help our customers achieve their sustainability objectives."

Purpose-built for OEM applications, Lineage Power’s CAR0812FP, CAR1612FP, and CP2725TE are standard front-end, rectifier power supply modules designed for datacom, telecom and distributed power applications.

The 850W, 18W per cubic inch, CAR0812FP features a one-of-a-kind combination of high efficiency and smaller-depth form factor (3.38 x 1.61 x by 8.73 inch depth) allowing OEM customers to differentiate their product by packaging it into a tighter envelope to allow room for adding more revenue-generating equipment or using the additional space gained to add features or performance for competitive advantage.

The 1600W (20W per cubic inch) CAR1612FP and 2725W (30W per cubic inch) CP2725TE were designed with light-load power consumption systems in mind. These are typically deployed in high availability applications where power supplies run in parallel for redundancy and fault tolerance, or where the system regularly moves in and out of standby and sleep modes. General power supplies provide optimum efficiencies at higher loads while the CAR1612FP and CP2725TE are designed to address real-world processes, requiring light-load efficiency without compromising efficiency at higher power levels.

Available immediately, the Lineage Power CAR0812FP, CAR1612FP, and CP2725TE rectifiers are available at $143, $288 and $450 for OEM quantities, respectively.
