IR to Expand Automotive Facility in Swansea

November 02, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

International Rectifier Corp. (IR, El Segundo, CA) announced that it is expanding its automotive facility in Swansea, and is on target for growth at its Newport fab. The company is planning to increase staff levels at its Swansea site to 250 from the current level of around 220 by the end of the year. The site makes automotive power management and motion control systems and modules.

At its wafer fab in Newport, IR is on target with recruitment plans announced in May when a $74 million (£40 million) investment plan was unveiled. There are currently around 414 staff at the site. The equipment is there in the 200 mm fab and first silicon has been produced. It will be qualified in the middle of next year for full production.
