Intel to Include Homeplug AV Technology as Optional Feature on 2008 Desktop Platforms
Intel® Corp. recently disclosed that the company plans to include HomePlug® AV technology as an optional feature on select 2008 desktop platforms. Founded in 2000, the HomePlug Alliance is said to be the only powerline communications organization to offer an open-standard based technology backed by multiple silicon providers and a strict product certification process developed by product manufacturers worldwide.
"With the emergence of Internet-delivered video, improvements in home networking and standards such as HomePlug A/V, are vital to ensuring that high-definition digital entertainment can seamlessly get inside and move between devices in the home," said Eric Kim, Intel Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Digital Home Group. "Intel has been evaluating the performance of HomePlug AV and has found the technology to be a robust and viable solution for the home."
